One
truth that is difficult to wrap our minds around is the concept of the
Trinity. It's a great and wonderful Divine mystery, and let's keep it
that way! We're not God, we don't have to pretend to understand the complexity
of the Trinity. Yes, God has given us a great ability to comprehend.
However, our comprehension only goes so far. It's not divine and all
encompassing. There are many inferences of the Trinity in the Bible,
the first in Genesis.
“…then
God said, “let us make man in our image, in our likeness…” (NIV)
Genesis
1:26
Notice
the plural “us”, “our” in
the above statement.
We
can also use our God-given intellect to recognize the grace of
God and how amazing it truly is. Focus and concentrate on God's
great un-ending fountain of compassion. He died for us all. Even
in our rebellion, He pours out His tremendous grace on our lives.
Just contemplate your own sins, and realize that God also see our
sins, as well as your motives and your heart. Now imagine God placing
a warm blanket around you, bringing you close to Him, and saying “I
love you” to
you.
That's
Grace.
When
we meditate upon God's grace, really think long and hard on that subject,
we can come to the quick realization that we are helpless and hopeless
apart from His grace. I believe we can honor God with that mental exercise.
When we intellectualize our moral bankruptcy and come to the foot of the
cross, with all our human failings, broken
hearts and our overwhelming sense of remorse, we honor God.
In
our heads, we can also identify with Christ. The word “Christian” means ‘In Christ'.
To identify with Christ is to be reborn a new person, no longer do
we wish to be slaves to sin, but are now free in Christ. If we identify
with Christ, that identification occurred in our minds… {yes, and
also in our hearts} but the initial thoughts were manifest in our
minds.
Paul
tells us in his letter to the Corinthians that worshiping, giving praise
and thanksgiving to God, and our Savior Jesus Christ can be revealed
in our bodies. This first starts with our minds and comprehension of
the awesomeness of our God, His wonderful grace that He lavishes on us
daily.
Granted,
worship is more than a mental exercise. However, we can use our heads,
our hearts and our hands to fully worship He who has graciously given
us those gifts. In eternity, we will be giving praise and worship to
God forever, I suspect with our heads, our hearts and our hands.
(Take
a few minutes and try to intellectualize the concept of “forever”.
And by the way, thank God that He has given you a mind to do so)
I
want to encourage you to examine how we can prepare for eternal
worship, by using our heads, our hearts, and our hands. Next month
we will explore how we can fully worship using our hearts.

As
Christians, we have the privilege of utilizing our God –given gifts
to give Him honor, praise and worship He so rightly deserves. God will
be honored and praised forever. Our utmost desire should be to do just
that…to
praise and honor our Father.
Revelation
Chapter 5 and Chapter 19 describes thousands, probably millions of angels
praising God, where a great multitude sing praises to Him.
We
can count on the day when we also will be in heaven, glorifying and honoring
our God forever.
How
can we prepare for that eternal praise giving? Fortunately for us, God
our Father has blessed us the ability to praise Him with our heads, our
hearts and our hands.
Worshipping
With Our Heads----------
Our
intelligence is a God-given gift. Our ability to reason, understand
and comprehend is something that animals or others living things in creation
cannot do. With our intellect we should acknowledge that God's Word is
the authority above all. The Bible is the true and final word. When we
are faced with dilemma, God's Word should settle it. We should not accept
man opinion or church tradition- but rather accept God's Word as the
final and only authority.
"Every
word of God is flawless; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.
Do not add to His words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar” (NIV)
Proverbs 30: 5-6
By
using our minds, we can understand fully that God is a personal God,
and that Jesus is our personal Savior. Jesus' prayer in John 17: 6-25
is a heart filled, sincere prayer for His people. This manifests and
enhances our knowledge the God is our personal God. Jesus pours out His
utmost sincerity and extreme desire for protection and sanctification
for His followers. Read the prayer. Once you read it, and with the use
of your mind you will comprehend its deep meaning. You, will as I did,
come to the realization that it's very personal. Jesus is praying that
His believers will be with Him in heaven and see His Glory. Take a few
minutes and let that soak into your head. Jesus' glory cannot be described,
and yet, His desire is to have us with Him in His glory. This is awesome!!
What is our response to that? Our response should be one of continual
praise- just like what is being done in heaven right now and forever.
Worshiping
our God is a wonderful privilege. God allows us another wonderful
privilege and that is to call Him ‘abba”. Abba
is an endearing term, such as dad or daddy. Privileges are first understood
in our minds. We worship Him, when we understand this great truth and
privilege granted to us from God, and act upon it.
“God
sent His Son, born of a woman, born under law to redeem those under
the law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. Because you are
sons, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts. The Spirit who
calls out “abba ; Father'. So you are no longer a slave but a son, and
since you are a son, God has make you an heir” (NIV)
