Dear Mr. President;
I respectfully submit this letter to you with sincere congratulations and best wishes as you embark in your historic presidency.
I appreciated your campaign slogan “Change” and what it meant and still means to you.
Change often times has many levels of emotion associated with it, like uncertainly, anxiety and particularly a sense of hope. Hope seemed to be the theme and overall tone of your inauguration.
I believe many Americans, including myself, are hopeful as we watched you take your oath of office. As you know so clearly Mr. President, many Americans are in deep dire straits as the economy has taken a tremendous negative toll on so many families. I know you are aware of this and are working on bi-partisan created solutions to help rectify this.
But today, Mr. President I write to you on behalf of millions of Americans who will not be allowed the opportunity to witness your ‘change’ administration, nor see the benefits of your change policies. These Americans will not be able to enjoy the basic American Dream of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. They will not be able to recite the pledge of allegiance nor salute the flag. For these Americans there will be no ‘change’ whatsoever! Mr. President, I’m talking about the millions of Americans you’ve forgotten. These are the unborn; the countless millions of Americans that will be killed during your administration. As tragic as 9/11 and Katrina were, abortion is even more tragic simply by the fact that it’s preventable, from a lawful practice standpoint.
Roe v Wade is the law, but it isn’t right. Many Americans are opposed to the basic tenet of abortion and hold life as a basic God-given right that should not be taken from them. This was confirmed by the numbers in the recent state elections.
Health care reform, bi-partisan crisis management, tax reform, energy policy reforms are all topics discussed in your campaign. On this subject, ‘Right to Life’, very little was discussed and the minimal that was discussed indicated that you would support polices that reduce abortion. However, the recent signing of the “Mexico City Policy” unfortunately affirmed your position that this was not the case at all. Millions of Americans -and now with open international funding with US taxpayer money- additional millions of global citizens will continue to be killed. This is simply wrong in so many ways.
Without an initiative to save American lives, Mr. President, your change administration is severely incomplete. All the prior mentioned issues as important as they are, pale in comparison to this horrible tragedy, this hateful cruelty, this catastrophic impotence of our past leaders to rectify the most egregious stain on our nation’s history.
It was noticed that President Lincoln was mentioned many times by the press, before and during your inauguration. Evidently there was to be connection to him as well as Martin Luther King, and President Kennedy regarding your historic presidency. I was very pleased to see that. What was troubling however was to know that President Lincoln, whose presidency was also under a black cloud of rough times, took a firm stance on human dignity, equality and human rights, and the abolition of the cruelty inflicted our fellow man. He didn’t waiver on what was right, just and moral even when faced with so much opposition. His Emancipation Proclamation was the highlight of his presidency, and he didn’t flinch while proclaiming it. Would Lincoln take a similar stance on the sanctity of life? If abortion in this magnitude was evident during his presidency, would he declare a Life Proclamation? It stands to reason and after studying his life – that he would indeed be vehemently opposed to it. Just as a slave was given his life, so would a pre-born baby be given its life. Again, assuming it was an issue of his day, it is a very safe assumption that he would with a loud voice declare a Life Proclamation, just as slavery prompted his Emancipation Proclamation. Abortion is cruelty in the most hateful description; it is so distasteful and utterly grotesque that it is unfathomable how a civilized nation such as ours can perpetuate it. It is beyond comprehension that it is not declared illegal. Lincoln encountered a similar injustice taking place in his nation, and he did something about it.
The connection of President Lincoln to your presidency is obvious. It is my sincere hope that the basic philosophy of life rights also be shared by you both.
Real meaningful change starts with an introduction of legislation that will end this terrible homicide and gross injustice of millions of Americans. Mr. President, I request that you make the swearing of your oath of office on Abraham Lincoln’s bible, not an empty and meaningless gesture. But rather make it symbolically powerful, make it resolute and make it truly American and most of all, Mr. President, make it right!
Yours is a daunting task, being the President of the United States at this time in history. So many are looking to you with hope in their eyes and hearts, and hope is often times all we have- but sadly many millions will not even have that.
It is with the utmost respect and heartfelt gratitude that I petition on behalf of the unborn that real, life-giving change occur in your administration. My prayers and thanks to you Mr. President.
Sincerely;
This was a recent letter that I sent to our president. Sadly in reality, it may never even reach his desk. More than likely a staff member may see it, and file it somewhere. Be that as it may, the issue is still a critical one. Yes, I do understand that the economy is number one on many minds. Nevertheless, I ask that you continue to pray for the end of this horrible national sin. How can God continue to bless this nation? How can we continue to do nothing? Abortion is a national sin, and has been for more than three decades. Combined with the moral bankruptcy of the masses, it is evident that we are spinning out of control, in a whirlpool just before the water empties out of a bathtub. But…
“If you repent, I will restore you, that you may serve Me; If you utter worthy, not worthless words, you will be my spokesman. Let this people turn to you, but you must not turn to them… I am with you to rescue and save you, declares the Lord. I will save you from the hands of the wicked and redeem you from the grasp of the cruel”
(Jeremiah 15: 19-21 NIV)
This was the message God gave Israel when they turned their backs on Him. It applies to the United States today. The idea of repentance and concept of sin is foreign to many people. Few people understand it Few leaders understand it. So remind them!
Petition your congress-people, your senators and the president to end this once and for all. Ask them to introduce legislation. Oppose the fact that your tax dollars are now going to fund abortion, not only here in the US, but now globally!
As Christians we are commanded to pray for our leaders. Regardless of your political affiliation, pray for President Obama and his administration, our Congressional leadership. Folks America is in trouble, and we should never underestimate the power of prayer. Now would be a good time for that!
